It all started when two friends in Michigan believed that their hometown and the brewing industry were due for a shakeup. Brett VanderKamp and Jason Spaulding grew up together in Midland, Michigan, and later attended Hope College. There, Spaulding and VanderKamp cultivated a love of homebrewing, which would bring them together again shortly after graduation. Their business plan took two years to formulate, and, in 1997,
New Holland Brewing Company was born in Holland, Michigan near the shores of Lake Michigan.
