Laphroaig 34 Year Old – The Ian Hunter Book 5: Enduring Spirit is a rare and exceptional Islay single malt that marks the final chapter in Laphroaig’s tribute to Ian Hunter, the visionary who modernised the distillery in the early 20th century. This limited edition whisky is double-matured in a combination of first-fill ex-bourbon American oak barrels and Pedro Ximénez European oak hogheads, resulting in a rich and complex flavour profile.
Tasting Notes:
-
Nose: Lightly peaty with notes of iodine and burnt wood, complemented by floral green malt, sweet candyfloss, vanilla fudge, and subtle accents of blueberry and raspberry.
-
Palate: Sweet and spicy, featuring hints of classic Laphroaig peat and cold barbecue ash. Flavours of salted caramel, butterscotch, roasted chestnut, a touch of peach, dried flowers, and white pepper emerge.
-
Finish: Peaty and malty, with a lingering sweetness that showcases the whisky’s depth and complexity.
Bottled at 45.5% ABV, this 34-year-old expression is a fitting homage to Ian Hunter’s enduring legacy and a testament to Laphroaig’s commitment to crafting exceptional whiskies.
